Initial funding and support for this project has been provided in part by the Minnesota Environmental and Natural Resources Trust Fund as recommended by the Legislative-Citizen Commission on Minnesota Resources (LCCMR), the U.S. Geological Survey, the Minnesota Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the University of Minnesota, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, and the Trumpeter Swan Society. Additional research collaborations are currently being added to the project. Collaring trumpeter swans

Protocols for capturing and marking trumpeter swans as part of this project have been approved by the University of Minnesota Animal Care and Use Committee (protocol no. 1905-37072A). Capture and marking trumpeter swans is authorized under permits from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (Special Permit no. 19017), the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (Threatened and Endangered Species Permit TE 175), the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Research & Monitoring Special Use Permit no. K-10-001), and the U.S. Geological Survey Bird Banding Laboratory (Federal Bird Banding Permit no. 21631).
